It is recommended to check the route on satellite images. A road marked as local on OSM, with a number, may turn out to be a gravel road along a hillside. If you see a segment on concrete during route planning, it's a good sign.
Asphalt deteriorates: in lowlands, at turns, in populated areas. In villages, there are plenty of speed bumps made of asphalt, often not marked with anything and 10 centimeters high. Often there is a concrete drainage ditch along the road, not separated from the roadway, or separated by intermittent curb stones. In cities, there are plenty of drainage grates with longitudinal slots. It is necessary to drive very carefully at night.
Excellent gravel roads often run along irrigation canals. Especially if you go downstream.
